North Carolina is like many states across the country suffering from the opioid crisis. Not only are people losing their lives but also this crisis impacts communities, families and the economy. It is a fight that requires a lot of resources. Approaches to helping those addicted to these drugs are at an all-time high. Everyone seems to be working to find a solution.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services explains that the main attempt to attack the problem is in offering services to help stop and prevent addiction. This is the best way to put an end to the crisis because it gets right to the heart of the problem. Helping people through providing treatment programs, support systems and other resources enables those addicted to these drugs to overcome the addiction, turn their lives around and avoid the serious risks of overdose.
The state has an action plan to combat this crisis. It is a multiple-step plan that addresses various areas of the problem. It includes ensuring access to treatment, stopping actions that helped lead to the crisis and providing education to prevent people from becoming addicted. The NCDHHS monitors the plan to see how it is working and make adjustments as needed to improve its impact.
While the state is still in the process of working on its plan and implementing it, there is hope. It takes time and plenty of work to end a health crisis as large as the opioid epidemic. With other states doing the same, there is a hope that one day this crisis will end and those addicted to these drugs will find relief and sobriety.
